I'm gonna sing the doom song!

Disney Returns to 2D!

The first trailer for the Princess and the Frog is up here. Looks like this trailer is not from anything in the film, but rather some sort of animation test. Animation looks nice, but I wish the trailer was actually funny...let's hope the film does amazing tho and 2D comes back full force!

While we're at it, here's the teaser for Harry Potter 6!

I'm an uncle!

My sister had a baby girl yesterday! Her name is Leah and she weighed 7 lbs 10 oz, I hear. Ridiculously cute. I'm heading home in a month and will get to see her for the first time then. Woo hoo!

My ComicCon cherry has been popped.

So this was my first San Diego Comic Con. I had some preparation for it back in February when I attended WonderCon in San Francisco. ComicCon was like Wondercon on crack. Estimates put over 165,000 people at the con this year and I certainly believe it.

I mostly stuck to the exhibit floor, meeting tons of amazing artists as well as new and old friends. I found that putting your portfolio on an iPhone is a great way to show people your work. (Thanks for the idea, Steph!) I attended a few panels (I got to see Joss Whedon AND the cast of Battelstar Galactica...what more could a nerd ask for?!). I also spent waaaaaaay too much money on this stuff:

There's even a Bill Presing print that isn't pictured. One of the coolest things in that pile is the poster in the upper left corner...here's a better look at it:

That's right - an Eric Tan poster for UP! There were only 50 copies printed and I got the last one! And it was on sale, half off! Amazing. I love it, can't wait to get it framed. And if I'm lucky some day I will get Eric and Pete Docter to sign it.

Other neat things in that pile up there: Chris Sanders' poster and Kiskaloo book, Ben Balistrieri's SEAWEED, Who is Rocket Johnson, Art of Israel Sanchez, three Doug TenNapel books, a Penny Arcade anthology, and a Liz Ito creature (his name is "Bean"!) for my soon-to-be born niece or nephew.

Let me thrill you with some more fun pics from the con:

One of many Poison Ivies on the floor.
Freakin' sweet steampunk Weta ray gun.
It's the bad guy from Iron Man!! (Saw it again on Saturday night - still great, but not quite as amazing after seeing Dark Knight.)
Look! A real live furry!
I don't know who these guys are...the one on the right is Cyclops I guess.
Bumblebee in the houuuuse!
Dumbledore checks his messages.
Edward Scissorhands made an appearance. Sweet homebrewed costume!
Overall it was a great time. (Minus the 16 hours in the car.) I look forward to spending not nearly as much money at APE in the fall.

Bay to Barkers

Brittney and I helped out the Berkeley Humane Society today by providing caricatures at an event they held at Cesar Chavez Park. It was freezing cold (in July!) and the dogs were restless and these were done very quickly...but they're kinda fun. (Dog names only shown below pics.)

Disney's Glago's Guest Clip

You can see a clip from this new Disney short here. I guess its about...aliens in Russia? Hey, kinda like the X-Files! I am liking the stylized CG hair...interested to see where this one goes. (Still not cartoony enough for me though.)

Jib Jab - Election 2008

They've really upped the production values this time. I'm highly impressed by the quality of animation and design throughout. Great work!
Send a JibJab Sendables® eCard Today!
You can even put yourself in the movie if you want! There's also a production blog that shows how they made the movie.
I usually refrain from posting anything political, but the whole FISA telcom-immunity thing really made me mad at my candidate. Someone on boingboing posted this fitting image:

The coolest bookcases.

Like most other artists, I'm a book fiend. And a bookcase fiend. I don't actually own any of these, but if anyone was thinking of a cool birthday present...now you know. What got me thinking about bookcases were these awesome pieces from Dust Furniture. Unfortunately they sell for over $1,000 each...
They would fit surprisingly well into the world of my two quarter RIT film:
This bookcase is not exactly real, but is pretty neat:
These IKEA-hacked bookcases have LED's that change color to the rhythm of music. Sweet!
Boing Boing pointed out this awesome bookcase from Brazil:
I love this stair-bookcase space saving combo:
This page from weburbanist has a ton of other cool bookcases, including a bookshelf made of books:
My mind has been blown. Seriously.
Also a sofa with a built in bookcase:
Or you can put your bookcases in the rafters if you are cramped on space:
And last but not least, a bookcase that transforms into a bed:
For that person who really loves books.

Crissy Field Sketchcrawl

Sorry for the delay, was too busy to scan these in last month. Finally got around to it...
Warning: When sitting in the sun all day for a sketchcrawl, wear sunblock. I think half of us ended up with awful sunburns. (Mine turned into a farmer's tan! Awesome.)

A whole new start!

This is my very first post as Sketchbloginson! The older posts are imported from my last blog. Hope you like the fancy new header. I'll still be posting my art, but hopefully branching out a bit and being a little more consistent in my posting habits. Update your feed readers and links! Wooohooo!
